OKLAHOMA CITY - June 6, 2014 - Heather Sterzick, General Manager of Sundance Airport in Oklahoma City and Marketing Manager for US Fleet Tracking, has been named incoming president of the Oklahoma chapter of the Ninety-Nines, Inc., International Organization of Women Pilots.
The Ninety-Nines is the pre-eminent international organization of licensed women pilots from 44 countries. Founded in 1929 by 99 charter members, the organization was named after this original group and has grown to more than 5,500 members worldwide.
Leadership in Aviation
Sterzick will assume the presidency of the Oklahoma Chapter in September 2014, taking the reins of one of the most active chapters in the organization. The Oklahoma Chapter has a rich history of promoting women in aviation and supporting educational initiatives throughout the state.
"I'm honored to take on this leadership role within such an incredible organization," said Sterzick. "The Ninety-Nines has been instrumental in advancing opportunities for women in aviation for 85 years, and I'm excited to contribute to that legacy here in Oklahoma."
About the Ninety-Nines
The Ninety-Nines was founded November 2, 1929, at Curtiss Field in Valley Stream, Long Island, New York. Among its charter members was Amelia Earhart, who served as the organization's first president. The organization's mission is to promote advancement of aviation through education, scholarships, and mutual support while honoring the unique history of women in aviation.
The organization provides members with opportunities for professional development, networking, mentorship, and scholarship programs. Chapter activities include aviation education programs, Young Eagles flights, airport cleanups, and scholarship fundraising events.
