US Fleet Tracking’s GPS Technology Thwarts Theives Again

OKLAHOMA CITY (Nov. 27, 2012) — When Rafael Santos went out to his truck one early morning in October, to his surprise it was nowhere to be found. The head of IT at CopySource in Fort Lauderdale, Fla., Santos immediately called local authorities. That’s not where his part in this crime-solving ended though; at that moment, Santos and officials became teammates in this story.

Santos and CopySource had a GPS tracking device deployed in his vehicle, within 2 minutes, authorities were tracking its movement live, turn-by-turn. The US Fleet Tracking device was discretely placed on the truck and was relaying its exact location along with variations in speed and route as it made its way to its destination; a chop shop. As the authorities arrived there only moments after the stolen vehicle, much to the surprise of the unsuspecting perpetrators, they deterred plans to dismantle the vehicle with only a bumper having been removed. Not only that, but US Fleet Tracking’s 90-day historical playback offered complete background on the vehicle’s travels, thus serving up valuable evidence for prosecution.

This is the third case since September where a stolen vehicle has been tracked and successfully retrieved using US Fleet Tracking’s GPS devices and technology. J&L Oilfield Services, which has nearly 140 trucks, recovered one of their fleet trucks within hours of its reported theft. The vehicle, stolen in Weatherford, Okla. could be seen on the web-based tracking platform traveling hours away in Texas. J&L’s dispatcher communicated the live whereabouts of the truck to police, and it was back at company headquarters within 48 hours and the thief arrested.

In another instance, Equipment Technology, Inc., based in Oklahoma City, retrieved its stolen truck, leased in New Mexico, within minutes of noticing it was gone. The $80,000 vehicle, and its contents, were returned undamaged.

US Fleet Tracking’s technology is web-based, and can be followed by the administrator, dispatcher or anyone given the account password. The company was the first to offer live 5 and 10-second tracking, and an array of features are available, from horn honking, to door lock/unlock, to enable/disable starter mechanism. Also, a Traffic and Weather Overlay feature is standard with any of US Fleet Tracking’s offerings.

“We knew US Fleet Tracking’s devices and technology were a cut above when we chose them, but when this happened to me, the performance of their tracking system was a real eye-opener”, says Santos about US Fleet Tracking’s products. “The accuracy of their system really impressed the authorities too. It made their capture and gathering of evidence much easier being able to pinpoint where my vehicle was while it was moving, and then having everything from speed to route taken. Not only for logistical purposes, but also for security of our vehicles and assets, our partnership with US Fleet Tracking has become one of our most valuable business moves in a long time.”

Santos adds that CopySource initially employed US Fleet Tracking’s GPS devices primarily for fuel savings and travel time efficiencies afforded the business, but now a whole new dimension has been added to its use within the company: “I’ve been talking to others here for a while about US Fleet Tracking’s service. I don’t think I’ll have to do much convincing anymore.”
