USFT is presenting sponsor of Redman Triathlon
OKLAHOMA CITY (Sept. 20, 2012) – USFT is the Presenting Sponsor of the 2012 Redman Triathlon, a premier multi-sport event set for Sept. 22 and 23 at Lake Hefner in Oklahoma City. The Redman, for the second time in its eight-year existence, will host the 2012 TriSports Long Course National Championships, and boast athletes from all over the United States and internationally.
Dave Wood, executive race director of Redman Triathlon, defines the importance of USFT's participation in this year’s event as two-fold.
“As well as financial support through their presenting sponsorship, USFT will provide almost 40 GPS trackers for a variety of logistical purposes, aiding the on-course staff immensely on race day,” says Wood.
USFT's live GPS trackers are used in a variety of sports venues, including the previous six Super Bowls, 2010 Winter Olympics, and 2012 Summer Olympic games.
“The implementation of these tracking devices in logistics facilitates more in-depth statistical gathering, which is valuable in the sports world,” adds Wood. “USFT's cutting-edge technology, along with strong financial backing, allows the Redman Triathlon to continue growing as a world-class event and a prime destination site for multi-sport competition.”
According to Wood the Redman has grown its status nationally in the triathlon world, with an estimated $4.3 million economic impact on Oklahoma City .
“The reception from the City, evidenced by our 1,100 volunteers, is instrumental to the race and a major factor contributing to the positive experiences we hear hundreds of athletes speak of each year,” says Wood. “The race committee is made up largely of athletes, and we’re all committed to delivering an athlete-friendly event that we ourselves would want to come back to. USFT is absolutely instrumental in furthering this effort, and we’re very appreciative.”
USFT is actively involved in sponsoring sporting events in Oklahoma, notably with partnerships with the Oklahoma City Thunder and the University of Oklahoma. USFT President Cindy Hunter, herself an avid athlete, said the Redman is a perfect fit for USFT to sponsor. “I’ve run in the Oklahoma City Memorial Marathon with our GPS tracker on my belt, and it allowed my teammates in the relay and our support crew to know exactly where I was at all times, eliminating any potential concerns,” says Hunter.
The Redman schedule offers a full and half Ironman distance race on Saturday, along with an Aquabike event. Sunday, the sprint distance and international distance events take place.
Hunter adds that helping Oklahoma’s push to be more health-conscious is at the heart of the company as well. “We place a premium on health and wellness-driven events, and Redman continues to be at the forefront of Oklahoma’s drive to be a fitter state,” says Hunter.
