Utilizing GPS Tracking Vehicle Maintenance Reminders

GPS tracking: Device and vehicle management

There are a lot of seasoned business owners making great use of GPS tracking devices and for every one company that has mastered utilizing these devices, there are a handful of them still working through the process. Trust us, the process is worth it in the end! One of the most robust, yet worthwhile functions of GPS tracking is the ability to set up vehicle maintenance reminders. Utilizing GPS tracking vehicle maintenance reminders is a great way to maintain healthy vehicles on the road which keeps drivers working and making you money.

The best part about GPS tracking vehicle maintenance reminders is that there are no limits as to what type of reminders you can create for your fleet. If you want to create separate reminders for tire rotations, oil changes, wiper blades, brake pads or more, that’s not a problem! By clicking into the device management area of your GPS tracking device, you will find multiple options.

If you have a one time reminder you would like to set you can chose to do so by clicking under maintenance options. If you’d like to have ongoing reminders after you perform routine maintenance, to keep things current, that is also an option. You don’t even have to be a mathematician to figure out when the next reminder should be set, because once you enter the initial vehicle mileage into the system it automatically calculates the mileage at which the next service will be required.

With a quick glance into your GPS tracking device’s Device Maintenance area, you can easily see what the status of vehicle maintenance for all vehicles in your fleet. You will be able to see s status of “over due” if maintenance is needed right away, “warning” if maintenance is coming up soon or “current” if everything is fine. After that you can chose to have the alerts sent to you via email, text or simply view the information online. Truly, utilizing your GPS tracking device for vehicle maintenance reminders couldn’t be easier.

Optimal Viewing Of GPS Tracker Reports

GPS tracker: Which view works best

The better you understand how to use your GPS tracker system, the better you can help your fleet business to become more efficient. While your GPS tracker devices do give you the option to view everything on a live system, there are other benefits such as being able to pull older, stored data to review trends, make billing easier, verify payroll and more. Today, we’re going to talk about which view works best for the size of the reports you may be trying to pull up.

View Online: This option is best used for smaller reports. Depending on how busy your fleet drivers are in one day may determine how much data can be swiftly pulled up online without affecting the performance of your computer. For example, it’s highly possible for one vehicle to generate 25 pages of content on a daily standard report. This can, generally, pull up pretty quickly. If you’re doing this for an entire fleet and you have notice a lag in your system, it may be best to chose the next option.

Request Download: This option is best chosen when you think or know that the report you are about to pull is going to be large. With GPS tracker reports you have the option to pull data back to the last 90 days. These reports, especially for the whole fleet, would be best downloaded rather than viewed online. The benefit to downloading versus viewing online is that it is easier to save the spreadsheet of information and print it off later if needed.

With all reports the user has the option to pull data for an individual device or device group. This is the difference between choosing data for one vehicle at a time or, possibly, for the entire fleet. You may chose either with the “View Online” or the “Request Download” option with either as previously mentioned, depending on the size of the report. As new things are always arising with GPS tracker devices becoming more technologically advanced, we know there will be questions and we’re here to help. We hope that using this information you are able to have an optimal viewing experience of your GPS tracker reports.

The Awesome GPS Tracker Search Feature

GPS tracker: Data in seconds

When your drivers are out in the field they need to know how to use the easiest GPS tracker features to optimize their time. Managers also need to be able to find their vehicles quickly on a live map. There are a lot of awesome GPS tracker features you can take advantage of in order to make your fleets run smoothly and more efficiently, but one of the greatest features to use is the search feature. We’re going to go over a few reasons why this feature is so awesome.

1.) Finding Devices Quickly: In the lower left corner of your map screen you can search anything and it only takes seconds for data to generate based on your search. For example, let’s say managers need to find a specific driver or device on the map. All the manager needs to do is type in the name of said device and data will automatically pop up to show the vehicle icon related to that device. In a matter of seconds the device is found on the live map.

2.) Finding Places Easily: If a driver is out in the field and needs to have the vehicle serviced for repairs, the driver can use the search bar to locate a nearby maintenance shop. The data is pulled from Google immediately. Those shops that have store hours posted on Google will appear on the GPS tracker map as green dots. Closed shops will appear as red dots and gray dots are displayed when store hours are unknown. Yellow dots represent stores that are open now, but closing soon. The dots turn blue when you hover over them to make it easy to see which location you are looking at. Most of the locations include website links, phone numbers and addresses to make it easier for drivers.

You could use the individual control buttons if you want to get more specific about certain activities within the GPS tracker, but if you want quick data right away the search feature is the perfect feature for this. To avoid wasting time and using up fuel by driving around to places that may be further way, just use the search feature to get your drivers closer to a more suitable destination. For ease and efficiency, the GPS tracker search feature on the map is fantastic.

4 GPS Tracker Geofence Uses For Fleet Businesses: Part 2

GPS tracker: Helpful for business operations

Many fleet businesses have already started using GPS tracker features such as geofencing for ultimate asset protection and equipment recovery. In part one of this series, we talked about how GPS tracker geofences can be used in those two ways, but those aren’t the only benefits of this wonderful feature. Other areas of your fleet business can take advantage of GPS tracker geofences, too. Here are another two out of four GPS tracker geofence uses for fleet businesses.

1.) Time: The word “time” is small, but it has great merit on your business. When you set a GPS tracker geofence for your job site, you will automatically know when employees are on the job site. This allows managers to monitor arrival, ongoing work and departure times. With geofence monitoring there is less likelihood of time delays and makes time sheets more accurate.

2.) Billing: With vehicle alerts, GPS tracker geofences makes customer billing easier. Who doesn’t want that? You can diminish customer disputes with geofence alerts. The alerts make it simple for managers to log time spent on and off the jobs. The data can then be used for printing off precise invoices for customers.

In their most basic sense, geofences are virtual perimeters on a map. Essentially, geofencing capability will provide fleets with alarms as well as other fleet management features when perimeters are crossed. These features will allow you to reduce liabilities, improve management and identify expected route deviations. Either creating a rectangular or polygonal shape of the area you want the geofence to monitor, you can see clearly if or when a vehicle being tracked moves into or out of that area. You can do a lot within your business by using just this one feature. Are you ready to get GPS tracker devices of your own?

4 GPS Tracker Geofence Uses For Fleet Businesses: Part 1

GPS tracker: Helpful for business operations

It’s no secret to many fleet owners that geofencing is quite the handy GPS tracker feature to have when it comes to keeping a watchful eye out on company vehicles. The GPS tracker system provides fleets with this popular feature which can be used in many areas of your business. Most managers recognize geofences as a way to mark off designated areas on a map, but this technology can be utilized more than one way. Here are two out of four GPS tracker geofence uses for fleet businesses.

1.) Protection: Securing company assets is important since they are worth a big chunk of your investment. Company vehicles being used without permission or during non-operating hours can result in increased insurance premiums due to liability issues. It can also produce expensive downtime and, in some cases, damaged property. GPS tracker geofences help you protect your assets by keeping you notified with alerts.

2.) Recovery: Construction companies know all too well the struggle of equipment theft. Many fleet vehicles are also being stolen for the parts inside. Should your company vehicles get moved outside the assigned geofence, a theft alert can be activated. In this way the GPS tracker geofence makes recovering stolen equipment quick and easy.

Sometimes you need proof a vehicle or company asset you’re tracking doesn’t leave, or enter, a specified area. Setting up virtual geofences with live GPS tracker maps empowers you to set alerts pinpointing the area in question. It’s simple to setup alerts that text and/or email any time of day or only during certain times when a vehicle enters and/or exits your geofence. If you’d like to know two more ways to use GPS tracker geofences for your business, stay tuned for part two of this series.

Many people even rely solely on their Smartphone for access to online services and information. Advanced Routing Options With GPS Trackers

GPS trackers: The smart way to plan and drive

A common task on a fleet manager’s to-do list is to ensure drivers are being efficient while conducting daily duties. Fleet managers understand better than anyone the intricacies of planning and delegating out the work load among all drivers. A great way fleet managers can streamline this activity is by having the digital aid of GPS trackers. With GPS trackers no phone calls are needed to coordinate the positioning of each driver to their next destination. Dispatching can utilize advanced routing options with GPS trackers so that drivers have a clearly planned path set before them.

Using advanced route planning is an optimization solution to finding the best route for fleets. GPS trackers with advanced route options allow you to set up pre-determined routes by placing them directly on the map. Not only is it super easy and smart for dispatching to plan out the path, but they can also program a route alert. With this function, a notification will be sent when a vehicles strays from the designated route. This isn’t just a means of keeping drivers on schedule, but also to ensure their safety as them veering from their marked path could mean something dangerous occurred. If an accident should occur you’d want to know about it right away and with GPS trackers you can.

What if dispatching decides they want to change the route? In case dispatching notices traffic conditions or construction will get in the way of a timely arrival for the driver the previously planned route can easily be changed. You can edit any route you have created at any time. If you want to delete a route you have created that can easily be done, also. If the path ahead appears to difficult to navigate solely with visual aid, the two-way communicator can be used to speak directly to the driver. With all the advanced routing options of GPS trackers, it’s inevitable that fleet managers will be able to assign tasks better. It also allows drivers to effectively complete jobs as there is no guess work as to where to travel to next.
